Roy Bedford - Walker, Writer and Meteorologist
Roy was born in 1936, educated in York and Wakefield, and spent most of his working life in Electricity, producing management reports, advising in marketing and accountancy.
Inspired by the written word, he edited newsletters, researched and produced books within the industry, and helped to develop new technology. In his spare time, Roy enjoyed the extremes of mountain walking, and on his retirement in 1990, devoted himself to reproducing the atmosphere of the mountains in print, forming his own publishing company to distribute the books.
Roy is married – Margaret is his greatest supporter, tireless in her independent advice, and her constant supplies of tea and coffee. Without her help, none of this would have been possible!
His enduring passion has always been the subject of the weather in all its variations – “As a mountaineer, a basic knowledge of the weather has been my guide, my inspiration, and my saviour. And when it snows, I revert to my childhood. It captivates me, invigorates me, transports me back to the days when I used to make snowmen, and my hands and knees were so chapped, they glowed in the dark.”

CHARLIE (The Dawson Story)
CHARLIE is the story of a coal-mining family,
A nostalgic collection of anecdotes and memories,
From a Victorian village community in Yorkshire.
How Charlie lived, loved and worked in the 1880s
And survived two World Wars.
Very personal stories of love and conflict, joy and sadness,
And difficult times in the 1940s.
Illustrated in old photographs,
From the first studio portraits, horse trams in 1900,
A snapshot of events through the century,
To the dawn of the New Millennium.
Charlie and his family will be remembered. Forever.
